For Parents
You know your kid better than anyone else, and you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and do some serious admissions work. That’s great, because The U of Me is for you too. (Why should the kids have all the fun?)
As a parent on The U of Me, you can stay up to date with what your graduate really thinks, and get your own college-search thoughts in order too. Plus, it’s available 24×7, from work or home or on the go. So even if you can’t get the whole family to sit around the kitchen table, you can still:
- Make your own list of “must-haves” and deal breakers, things that you think would make a college great for your kid.
- Build your own “hot list” of colleges, and track your kid’s progress at each one.
- Record of what you think about each school, looking at the things you care about and considering everything you’ve learned.
- Analyze and compare your own personal ratings of each school, and make sense of the whole picture.
Of course, you’re likely to see things very differently than your kid does, and maybe even differently than your spouse. That’s why each of you gets to have your own “file,” with your own lists and ratings. Got a Counselor or Advisor helping you in your college planning? Invite them too.
The U of Me makes it easy to compare notes, comment on each other’s file, and send each other suggestions. Neighbors raving about where they sent their son? Add it to the list to check out. You see your daughter wants to explore the theater, and maybe do some undergrad research? Add them to your search criteria. Just got back from a campus tour and want to make sure you remember those gorgeous new dorms? Enter your ratings. Heading to office hours with your counselor? Bring your U of Me file along with your kid’s and get the ball rolling.
So what now?
Ready to do your kid’s college search, together?
